Alteryx-ing our World Cup Sweepstake

Here at Continuum we love Alteryx, but we love fun even more, sometimes too much fun and it gets a bit Messi! With Halloween behind us and no more hat tricks or treating or ghoul keepers around, we thought…What’s next?

With the World Cup just around the corner, we decided to use Alteryx for our internal sweepstakes. To get the ball rolling, I posted on our Teams chat to see who would like to get involved. Everyone was - what a result!

To make this project a success we needed:

• A way to draw the 32 teams, that anyone can Petr Cech is fair.

• An exciting and engaging live Cup draw.

• A way for everyone to keepy up with how their teams are doing live during the month.

Using Alteryx we created a workflow to randomly select a team for everyone, which was shareable meaning there were no controversies. Once the teams had been decided, we used Alteryx to produce a dynamic Slide tackle Show so the whole team could watch live as their teams were picked!

To keep track of everyone’s chances we used odds from https://the-odds-api.com . No matter what football knowledge the team has, everyone can see their chances of winning the World Cup. Using the API connectivity of Alteryx we produced some live and interactive visuals by passing the data from Alteryx to PowerBI.

With all of our goals achieved, all that’s left is to get ready for the exciting month of football ahead.
