Project Hack 16 Winners…No-Code Continuum !

As a team we live for new challenges, and one of our favourites have been the Project:Hack hackathons run by Projecting Success (above).

If you didn’t know already, we eat, sleep and breathe the world of data, so we love opportunity to get involved in the Projecting Success latest Hackathon to test our skills around these varied datasets.
We have participated in a few Hackathons now using our partners’ tools (Alteryx, DataRobot, Tangent Works, Power BI) fitting the challenges in around our client work - a real test !

The hackathons are contested by up to 20 teams of analysts, project experts and data scientists who have two days to produce a usable solution for a sponsor’s dataset and business requirements.

We have had a 4th place before when risk rating and mapping Transport for London assets ( see here ) but went 3 better this time !

Project Hack 16 took place on the 4th and 5th of August where we remotely tackled a challenge called “Healthy Mind, Healthy Lives”.
This challenge had years of employee surveys questioning their employer’s policies and outlook on mental health, ending with the ultimate question, “How well do you think your employer prioritizes mental health?”.

There were, however, issues in the data - when aren’t there ?!?

Questions had changed over time and responses weren’t validated - for example, age was a free text field meaning anything could be written in there and there was no way of interpreting and understanding the data that was collected.

Using Alteryx, we uploaded years of survey data, cleansed and consolidated both questions and responses, then within minutes looked to power insightful and presentable dashboards to organisational stakeholders in people and leadership.

Part 2 of the project was to use the Cloud Automated Machine Learning platform Data Robot, to divine the driving factors for organisations being perceived by employees as truly caring about their mental health.

We learned in minutes that the more an employer focuses on the benefits of their employee’s physical health, the more likely they will be perceived as caring about their employees’ mental health.

These insights allowed us to produce Power BI visualizations to clearly illustrate the point, and to produce a self-assessment form for employers.

Take a look at our submission below which led to the win of Project Hack 16 - all without a line of code !

If you’d like us to have a look at a data challenge from your organisation, please get in touch and we’ll do it for free !
