How To Collect Your Company’s Big Data Without The Big Hassle

Here at Continuum we are looking to help you with your data, a classic example of this is turning mundane, time consuming processes into fast, automated and repeatable Alteryx workflows.

We know that the ideal solution is to collate and organize hundreds of different unknown Excel workbooks plus their sheets into a handful of relevant databases. In the past, we have had our own clients who looked to reconcile millions of their own customers spanning across databases from different systems, using different field headers. However, collecting all this information 24/7 means the company is paying for thousands of manual hours which could lead to human error. Alternatively, we have helped clients who have previously scrapped thousands of financial statements and now realized they want to organize them into a manageable database - this is where we come in…

OUR RECOMMENDATIONS

  1. Add relevant files to a folder and run a workflow to extract field headers from the databases.

  2. Build some logic that will determine which final database the sheet will be added to for example:

    • Group the sheets by their first column.

    • Say “if” a sheet contains a certain ID field you know the contents of the database.

    • Consolidate all databases which have the exact same schema.

  3. Combine these original sheets into their final databases that are now manageable.

Whilst further manual work is required to complement these workflows, leaving the strenuous, work-intensive tasks to Alteryx.
