A Jersey accountant has scooped the Alteryx user Grand Prix competition less than a year after starting to use the software.

Katrin Erb, Finance Automation and Product Manager, Standard Bank, won the award at the Inspire Europe 2018 Conference this week.

She was partnered by Dan Hare, Founder, Continuum, in the finals of the competition, which saw Alteryx users from around the globe demonstrate their skills using the AI-based programme.

Katrin, who joined Standard Bank three years ago as a graduate accountant, was up against senior partners from the banking group. The prize included £1,800 of travel vouchers.

Dan said: “This was an amazing achievement for Katrin. She only started using Alteryx 11 months ago and has no experience coding. She was up against some very senior people, but she totally smashed it.”

Over 1,500 people attended the Inspire conference, including over 20 finance professionals from Jersey. The annual conference is designed to celebrate successes in disruptive technologies, bringing together people from across the business community to learn more about the latest advances in data analytics.

Speakers at this year’s sold out event included science writer Ben Goldacre, Alteryx Chairman and CEO Dean Stoecker, and Alteryx’s Chief Customer Officer, Olivia Duane Adams.

Dan said: “It has been exciting to see so many people from Jersey’s Finance industry come to London to develop their knowledge of Alteryx this week, and discuss new ways they can use the software in everyday business situations. More and more organisations are recognising the importance of good data for their operations, and Alteryx is proving to be a very popular way for organisations to get transformative benefits in a quick, cost-effective way.”
