Getting Started with Alteryx !

Congratulations, you’ve decided to get hands-on with Alteryx - it’s the first step on the road to data rockstardom !

The first time you run your freshly installed Alteryx Designer you’ll activate your free trial, then be taken through an interactive demonstration of how to use Alteryx.

If you are lucky enough to be our Alteryx client, we will be guiding you through this as part of your free proof of value (see here), but in case you are a self starter follow the steps below.

If you prefer to watch video, Ben from the team created a very popular intro video on our growing YouTube channel here

OK, we’ve helped lots of people like you get going with Alteryx as quickly as possible, so step on through…

Go through the Built-In tutorials

Under Help/Tutorials, you’ll find a series of example workflows…

Just follow the instructions, they are there to help you !

This is the first tutorial, showing you the first step of actually reading data from a source so that you can analyse it in Alteryx.

One important difference about Alteryx is that the built in help is accurate and meant for you ! It’s also easy to find, and the best way to learn more ways of doing things as you start creating solutions to your data tasks.

In this case, the instructions take you through how to add a new Input Data tool to the workflow, configure it and run the workflow…and hey presto you have created your first Alteryx workflow.

Just follow the link at the bottom to the next tutorial and you are off and running.

You can also experiment with each of the tutorials, follow the “Additional Resources” link to find out more - you can’t save your changes, so you can always go back to the start !

If you are experienced at Excel (the perfect preparation for Alteryx !) please also check out the specific “How do I do <Excel task> page” here…

Explore some Sample Workflows

Whatever you are looking for, it’s probably here

The Sample Workflows are a treasure trove of fully functioning, running demonstrations of what you can do in Alteryx.

Find the one that does what you want, play with it to understand it, connect it to your own data and you’re up and running !

The “Learn one tool at a time” section is a really handy place to review the example workflows for all standard tools, you’ll find very quick shortcuts,

And when you are ready to take your first steps into spatial analytics, Data Science or process automation this is also a great place to start.

There’s specific help for Excel Users !

90% of our best Alteryx clients start as Excel power-users - first thought should be Alteryx as Pivot Tables on steroids across all data sources.
There’s “How Do I ?” content just for you here !
