Data Migration to Fenergo Implementation
A data migration success story moving data from various platforms to a growing Fenergo implementation
Mission Statement
Continuum was entrusted by a Corporate Services Provider to migrate and consolidate their critical risk and compliance data from their current platforms to Fenergo.
This involved moving complex datasets for over 100,000 entities across many jurisdictions, each requiring significant transformation to align with the structural differences between the systems.
Given the scale and complexity, a manual process using Excel was not only labour-intensive and time-consuming, but also posed a significant risk of errors.
Using Alteryx allowed us to provide a repeatable process that transformed the previous system data and content into the correct format for using Fenergo’s well defined API’s to reconcile the datasets.
This ensures that duplications and out of date data aren’t pushed into the new platform, a common problem with system migrations and upgrades.
Tools Used
Alteryx Designer + Server, Fenergo APIs
Detailed Solution
Our team began by connecting to the previous systems’ APIs and file stores to extract data in JSON format. We designed a workflow in Alteryx that efficiently converted these JSON files into object files, preparing the data for the subsequent transformation phase.
Once the data was prepped, it was transformed. This included cleansing the data, renaming fields, and executing mapping operations to align the data with Fenergo's requirements. We also reconstructed the data hierarchies to accommodate the structural differences between the old and new systems. All these processes were automated in Alteryx, ensuring that the output was perfectly structured for seamless import into Fenergo every time it was recreated.
Then, Alteryx pushed the transformed data into Fenergo via its APIs. Errors were flagged for review to ensure data integrity.
To ensure the success of the migration, we conducted multiple dummy runs in the UAT environment, rigorously testing the entire migration workflow. Whenever issues arose, we refined the Alteryx workflows to address them, ensuring that every aspect of the migration was flawless.
All data was successfully migrated to Fenergo, with every entity and relationship preserved intact.
Conclusion
Continuum's use of Alteryx in this migration project significantly enhances the efficiency, accuracy, and reliability of the data migration process, ensuring that the Corporate Services Provider’s critical risk and compliance data is successfully transitioned to their new system.
Alteryx allows for easy adjustments to workflows, accommodating any changes in the migration process without significant rework. The process is also easily scalable and repeatable.
